The Lady Who Was Ready to Die

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

I can't wait to chat with you about the lady who was ready to die!!

In case you didn't know, it is Women's History Month. To honor the women who have gone before us we are going to spend our time together here on the blog this month discussing some amazing women of the Bible.

There are many amazing ladies in the bible who did many amazing things. Today, I want to share an account of a woman who was ready to die.

This is a super short story that I read to my daughter from her children’s bible.

This woman was going about her life. Then here comes this opportunity to make a difference in history and her response was not uncommon to us. She was just trying to feed her family.

She found herself in the middle of needing to make a decision.

Step out in faith and risk not affording to feed her family, or making sure her family was fed and turning away this history marking moment.

This seemingly small miracle would have been absent from her life. I wonder what this woman learned about God and about faith because she said yes?

I wonder how she responded to the next opportunity because this opportunity had strengthened her belief in God’s amazing provision?

We don’t look at prophets in our culture like they did in this time. Don’t get me wrong, God is still pouring out His Spirit and anointing men and women as prophets, but the cultural understanding is so different.

What has been asked of you lately that you have had to make a choice like this woman?

Do I chose faith and investment even though it looks like I may not be able to pay the bills?

Do I chose to make sure to take care of my family first and then whatever is left I can consider using to invest in an opportunity or resource for myself?

So many times we think the stories of the random checks in the mailbox are for pastors and preachers. So often we think that the supernatural provision is for the church organizations and their ministries.

All too often we forget that we individuals are the Church! We forget that God pours out His Spirit on all His sons and daughters. We forget that the supernatural provision, and multiplication of the Kingdom of God is for you and me, the everyday, the ordinary.

If you look to your Bible in 1 Kings 17 you will find the full story. Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid. First make me a cake and bring it to me. Then you may go and make food for your family. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ’The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.’”

What is it that God opened the door for and asked you to walk through?

What are you going to say yes to?
